This movie is a great movie for those who are passionate about finding out what is important in life. I was trying to complete the book before the movie came out, but couldn't resist going to see Julia Roberts.
The book definitely offers more perspective into the main character's life. I am not sure if movie watchers will understand the motives behind her actions...something the book does well since it is written in first person.
However, the movie does offer a visual for the words on the pages. Especially, when it comes to the "Eat" portion of the title. I wanted to buy a plane ticket to Italy the next day just to eat some of that spaghetti...it was almost like I could taste the marinara sauce, fresh gelato, and decadent Napoleon's dessert.
Needless to say, the eating part of her journey was the favorite for me. Even the part where Italians believe in the "il dolce far niente" which means "the sweetness of doing nothing." A practice I am going to incorporate immediately...well after I complete this blog.
She then travels to India and Indonesia...three countries that begin with the letter "I" - symbolic of this time in her life where she is focusing on herself.
There is a distinct mode that can be felt throughout the movie...calm and peace. It is defintely a movie that I will purchase when it comes out on DVD.
So please go eat, pray, and love and see this movie.
